Prithvi Jayanti, marking the 304th birth anniversary of Prithvi Narayan Shah, is being observed today across the country as National Unity Day. On the occasion, historians, senior poets and creators commemorated Prithvi Narayan Shah in a distinct and creative manner at Chandragiri Hill, a site closely linked to the history of Nepal’s unification campaign. Standing before the statue of Prithvi Narayan Shah, they presented literary works focused on his contribution and on Nepali nationality, expressing reverence through poetry and creative expression. The programme was organised on Saturday by Thirdpole Group at the statue premises in Chandragiri. Historian Prof. Dr. Dinesh Raj Pant recalled that Prithvi Narayan Shah, after viewing the Kathmandu Valley from Chandragiri Hill, planned the unification of the valley, including Kirtipur, into the Gorkha state. Describing Chandragiri as a historic site tied to the unification campaign, he said Prithvi Narayan Shah should be remembered as a brave warrior and nation builder who gave Nepal and Nepalis their identity. Senior poet and lyricist S. P. Koirala recited his poem Chirer Hera Yo Mero Chhati, reflecting on the sacrifices of Nepal’s ancestors and stressing that the present generation must also contribute to the nation’s future. He said the time had come to act for the nation and national identity. Another senior poet and lyricist, Dinesh Adhikari, highlighted emotional unity among Nepalis in his poetry, referring to Prithvi Narayan Shah’s role in unifying the land and binding people together. He expressed love for the country while urging respect and responsibility toward the nation. Senior poet Dr. Rajubabu Shrestha, through his poem, remembered Prithvi Narayan Shah as the architect of Nepal’s borders and sovereignty, while expressing sorrow over attempts to dismantle his statues. In his poem Manchitrama Ubhiyeera, poet Mani Lohani presented the idea of national unity by referring to shared places of faith and prayer, stating that present-day Nepal reflects Prithvi Narayan Shah’s vision of a garden of diverse castes and communities. Poems reflecting similar sentiments of nationalism were also presented by poets Hem Prabhas, Narayan Nirashi and Elisa Dhungana. Works by Prabhati Kiran, Pradhumna Joshi, Krishna Banjade, Dinesh Pariyar and Anita Koirala addressed national identity, the country’s current challenges and political inconsistencies. Creators remembered Prithvi Narayan Shah as a brave figure who broke barriers, dreamed of a unified nation and wove national unity by bringing together hundreds of flowers, comparing Nepal to a paradise on earth. Various programmes are organised every year on National Unity Day at the statue of Prithvi Narayan Shah built at Chandragiri Hill. At the event, Chandragiri Hills company secretary Jhalak Sharma Paudel recalled that the statue was constructed at Chandragiri, a site linked to the history of Nepal’s unification, at a time when statues were being dismantled in different parts of the country. The post Creators Remember Prithvi Narayan Shah at Chandragiri on Prithvi Jayanti first appeared on epardafas.com.
