Sujata Koirala Says Party Has Not Split, Urges Acceptance of Gagan Thapa’s Leadership - english.pardafas.com
Nepali Congress leader Sujata Koirala has said the party has not split and has called on party members to accept the leadership of newly elected president Gagan Kumar Thapa. Expressing her views through social media on Saturday, Koirala described the change in party leadership as a reflection of the people’s will and stressed the need to move forward by taking the development in a composed and positive manner. She rejected claims that the Nepali Congress has fractured, saying the leadership transition may have occurred slightly earlier than expected but the party’s core structure remains unchanged. Congratulating Thapa on his election, she said a new party president has taken charge sooner than anticipated, but that alone does not amount to a party split. Koirala urged the new leadership to advance without losing sight of the ideology of BP Koirala and the organisational foundation strengthened by Girija Prasad Koirala. She said the new leadership would have the support of party members and the public, and should now focus on national development and strengthening the Nepali Congress. Stating that the party office, the four-star flag, the election symbol tree, and the cadre base remain the same, she asked party members not to be misled into believing the party has divided. She said leadership change should not create panic and advised dissatisfied groups to remain restrained rather than becoming entangled in legal interpretations. She also said that leadership can change again through future elections, urging party members not to panic or feel threatened, but to accept the change with confidence. Emphasising unity, Koirala said the party must move forward as one by embracing the change sought by the country. The post Sujata Koirala Says Party Has Not Split, Urges Acceptance of Gagan Thapa’s Leadership first appeared on epardafas.com.
