The Nepali film Gunyo Cholo: The Dress was released in cinemas nationwide today following strong anticipation from audiences. Pre-bookings began earlier this week, buoyed by widespread praise for lead actor Najir Husen’s performance in the trailer and promotional content. Directed by Samundra Bhatta, the film tells the story of a transgender woman and is being hailed as Nepal’s first full-fledged trans narrative on screen. Najir Husen plays the lead role of a trans-woman, supported by performances from Sanchita Luitel, Sushil Sitoula, Rajkumar Ghosh, Shishir Rana, Anupam Shrestha, and Bishal Pahari. The film’s international distribution rights have been acquired by Buffalo ATLÉ, a US-based company. All post-production work, including editing, sound design, color grading, and background score, was completed abroad in a Hollywood-style setup. Hollywood artist Lisa Gerrard, known for her work in Gladiator II, has lent her vocals to the film, while the background score was composed by Marcello De Francisci. Produced through collaboration between a Nepali and a Hollywood production house, the film features investment from Aakash Budhathoki and V. Bhansé Janubon. Jeffrey J. Vann and Steve Johnston serve as executive producers, with Anupam Shrestha as associate producer. The cinematography is by Alok Shukla, while lyrics for the film’s music were penned by Lekhu Sahayatri. The project was also selected for screening at the prestigious Pictures Film Market in the United States. Gunyo Cholo: The Dress blends Nepali cultural symbolism with international filmmaking techniques, aiming to deliver a powerful message on identity, dignity, and social acceptance. The post Film ‘Gunyo Cholo: The Dress’ Hits Theaters Nationwide first appeared on epardafas.com.
