Jhapa constituency No. 5 has recorded the highest number of voters among the district’s five electoral constituencies, emerging as a key battleground in the upcoming House of Representatives election. According to the District Election Office, the constituency also stands out for hosting one of the most closely watched electoral contests in the country. Office chief Tulsi Nepal said Jhapa district now has a total of 713,537 registered voters, including around 50,000 newly added voters. Of this, constituency No. 5 alone accounts for 163,379 voters, comprising 81,081 men, 82,296 women, and two voters listed under other categories. The constituency has 61 polling stations and 185 polling centres. The significance of Jhapa-5 has further increased as CPN-UML chair and former prime minister KP Sharma Oli and Rastriya Swatantra Party senior leader Balendra Shah, widely known as Balen, are contesting from the same constituency. The high-profile face-off has placed Jhapa-5 at the centre of national political attention, with voter turnout and electoral behaviour here expected to carry symbolic and political weight. In comparison, Jhapa constituency No. 2 has 147,522 voters, including 73,950 men, 73,567 women, and five voters under other categories, with 49 polling stations and 165 polling centres. Constituency No. 4 has 130,712 voters, comprising 66,283 men, 64,428 women, and one voter under other categories, with 63 polling stations and 156 polling centres. Constituency No. 3 has a total of 110,857 voters, including 71,174 men and 69,683 women, with 67 polling stations and 164 polling centres.
