The Special Court has ordered the release of former additional secretary at the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr Sangita Mishra, on a bail of Rs 500,000 in a corruption case. A bench comprising judges Narayan Prasad Poudel, Dilli Ratna Shrestha, and Bidur Koirala issued the order on Wednesday, according to Special Court Information Officer Yagya Raj Regmi. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority had filed a corruption case against Dr Mishra on Kartik 2, citing large-scale irregularities in the procurement of mammography machines. The case also names former Director General of the Department of Health Services Dr Kaushal Mishra and 13 others as defendants. The CIAA has alleged that the accused caused financial losses of more than Rs 140.685 million to the state through fake bills, falsified reports, and collusion. Along with Dr Mishra, the case has been filed against former Director of the Department of Health Services Management Division Dr Shravan Kumar Thapa, senior health administrator Dr Surendra Prasad Chaurasia, department director Dr Bibek Kumar Lal, former Chief Accounts Controller Bhuvan Prasad Kafle, legal officer Sita Ghimire, and public health officer Dipak Adhikari.
