KATHMANDU: Medical professional Durga Prasai was arrested in Pokhara on Monday for allegedly planning to disrupt elections, lead various movements, and hack government websites to steal data. According to the Election Commission, an audio recording surfaced in which Prasai reportedly outlined a scheme to hack government websites and misappropriate sensitive information. Prasai, who also serves as coordinator of the “Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture, and Citizen Protection Campaign,” had arrived in Pokhara for a scheduled program when the arrest took place. DSP Haribahadur Basnet stated that Prasai was taken into custody by Kaski Police under the directive of the District Police Office, Kathmandu, and will be sent to the capital for further investigation. Prasai has publicly claimed on social media that the Nepali Congress faction supporting its special general convention had allocated Rs 5.2 crore to manipulate election results in their favor. He has been actively leading movements advocating the restoration of the monarchy, establishment of a Hindu kingdom, and the dissolution of provincial structures. Earlier, on 2 Magh, the government had reached a 12-point agreement with him, but recent developments suggest continued agitation.
