Preparations for the Maghe Sankranti fair to be held at Devghatdham have been completed, authorities said. Devghatdham, a major religious pilgrimage site located at the confluence of the Trishuli and Kali Gandaki rivers linking Tanahun, Chitwan and Nawalpur districts, hosts a large fair every year on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti. Executive Director of the Devghat Area Development Committee Sadan Baral said all preparations for the fair have been finalised, adding that around 300,000 devotees are expected to attend this year. According to astrological calculations, the day when the Sun enters the Capricorn sign from Sagittarius is observed as Makar Sankranti, also known as Maghe Sankranti. Baral said there is a long-held religious belief that bathing at Devghatdham throughout the month of Magh brings spiritual merit. He also noted the belief that the confluence of the Trishuli and Kali Gandaki rivers at Devghat took place on the day of Makar Sankranti. During the fair period, vehicles will be allowed to enter Devghat via Ramnagar in Chitwan, Ramnagar–Thimura, or through Dasdhunga, while return routes have been arranged via Devghat–Bageshwori–Aaptari, Baral said. Devotees from Nawalpur can reach Devghat by crossing the Kali Gandaki bridge at Hardi. Vehicles coming from the Muglin side will be allowed to enter Devghat directly through Dasdhunga and return via the same route. Parking arrangements have been made for vehicles arriving from Chitwan, with small vehicles allowed to park within the premises of Sitaram Sanskrit Secondary School, while larger vehicles, including buses, minibuses and microbuses, will be parked at the bus park located northeast of the cremation site entrance, known as Chandralok Swargadwar. For pedestrians entering from the Tanahun side, designated routes have been set via Pulko Mukh, Harihar Chowk, Harihar Temple and Galeshwar Chowk to Benisangam, with return routes arranged through Benisangam, Galeshwar Ashram, Galeshwar Chowk, Chakravarti Temple, Mahesh Sanyas Ashram, Town Chowk, Harihar Chowk and back to Pulko Mukh. Devghat Area Development Committee Chairperson Dr Ishwari Raj Laudari said coordination has been carried out with the chief district officers of Tanahun, Chitwan and Nawalpur, the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and the mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City to ensure the pilgrimage is safe, convenient and well-managed. More than 300 security personnel will be deployed on the day. Smoking, meat, alcohol and tobacco products have been prohibited within the pilgrimage area. Dr Laudari urged devotees to cooperate by refraining from the sale, transport and consumption of such items. He also said the bathing area at Benisangam has been cordoned off with ropes, warning that bathing in deeper areas beyond the designated zone could be dangerous. The committee said the fair will be formally inaugurated this morning by erecting the sacred lingo at Benisangam in accordance with religious rituals, in the presence of heads of various ashrams at Devghatdham. The post Preparations Complete for Maghe Sankranti Fair at Devghat first appeared on epardafas.com.
