Armed gang robs Nepal SBI Bank branch in Sindhuli - english.makalukhabar.com
KATHMANDU: An armed gang looted more than Rs 31,095,000 from a Nepal SBI Bank branch in Ghyanglekh Rural Municipality of Sindhuli on Tuesday evening. According to police, a group of six robbers wearing masks entered the bank between 7:00 pm and 7:45 pm. They overpowered the staff, tied them up with ropes, and carried out the robbery. During the incident, the attackers seriously injured security guard Rudra Karki with a sharp weapon. He is currently receiving treatment at a local health facility. The robbers fled towards a nearby forest after filling sacks with cash from the bank’s safe. Soon after receiving information, police teams from Bastipur Area Police Office and the District Police Office, Sindhuli, rushed to the scene. During a joint search operation by police and local residents in the forest area, several sacks abandoned by the robbers were recovered. Sindhuli Police Chief Superintendent of Police (SP) Lal Dhwaj Subedi said that Rs 18,010,500 has been recovered so far. Police have also seized the Tata Sumo vehicle used in the robbery and arrested its driver. Preliminary investigations suggest that the gang had come in a planned manner from Banepa, Kavre. Following the incident, additional security forces have been deployed under the command of DSP Surya Prakash Subedi. Police have cordoned off the surrounding forest area and intensified the search operation. “We have taken control of the vehicle used in the robbery and detained the driver. Efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects and recover the rest of the stolen money,” SP Subedi said.
