Superintendent of Police Bishnu Prasad Joshi has assumed office as chief of the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Force. Joshi took charge following the resignation of former municipal police chief SSP Rajunath Pandey. Based on seniority, Joshi was entrusted with the command of the metropolitan police force, and formally assumed the role after Pandey’s resignation was accepted. Joshi has previously served as head of disaster management and as chief of the central zone command of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. He had also worked as acting municipal police chief when Pandey was suspended by Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain. Pandey submitted his resignation with effect from Sunday after announcing his decision to enter politics alongside Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah. With the resignation taking effect, Joshi officially took over the leadership of the metropolitan police from Monday.
