KATHMANDU: Four ministers from the interim government led by Prime Minister Sushila Karki, tasked with overseeing the upcoming elections, have resigned to enter the race for the House of Representatives. The ministers stepped down ahead of the elections scheduled for March 5. According to sources, the ministers contesting the election include: Kulman Ghising, Minister for Energy, Water Resources, Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure, and Transport Bablu Gupta, Minister for Youth and Sports Jagdish Kharel, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Mahabir Pun, Minister for Education, Science, and Technology Earlier, the ministers had announced their resignations to maintain the interim government’s independent identity before entering the party-political arena. Following his resignation, Energy Minister Ghising formed the Ujyalo Nepal Party, under his leadership. Ghising, a former Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority, will contest from Kathmandu-3, according to the party spokesperson, Dr. Raju Thapa. Youth and Sports Minister Gupta, a prominent leader of the Gen Z movement and social activist, will contest under the Rastriya Swatantra Party banner from Siraha-1. Former Communications Minister Kharel, a journalist with over two decades of experience and former editorial head of Image Television, received the party symbol from Rastriya Swatantra Party Vice President DP Aryal. He is scheduled to file his candidacy at 3 PM today at the Lalitpur-2 Election Office. Meanwhile, former Education Minister and founder of the National Innovation Center, Mahabir Pun, has already filed his independent candidacy from Myagdi-1. Today marks the official start of candidate registration for all 165 constituencies nationwide under the direct electoral system for the House of Representatives elections.
