Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has filed his candidacy for the post of party president at the ongoing second special general convention. Thapa registered his nomination at the convention, which has been underway at Bhrikutimandap since Sunday. According to sources from the election committee, Thapa is the sole candidate to file a nomination for the post of president. The sources said nominations for all other office-bearer posts have also been registered. Earlier on Wednesday morning, Thapa and fellow General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma held talks with party president Sher Bahadur Deuba in an attempt to reach a consensus, but the discussions ended without agreement. Although nominations for all posts have been filed, Thapa and Sharma are currently consulting legal experts, sources said.
