KATHMANDU: Suman Sayami, who rose to prominence after contesting the Kathmandu Metropolitan City mayoral race as an independent candidate in the last local elections, is set to formally enter party politics. The National Liberation Party group led by Sayami will officially merge with the Communist Party today (Wednesday). The unification announcement ceremony is scheduled for 1 PM at Rastriya Sabha Griha in Pradshani Marga, Kathmandu. Along with Sayami, senior leaders of the National Liberation Party, cooperative victims, and activists protesting against the Bagmati riverbank demarcation standards will also join the Communist Party through the same platform. In recent months, Sayami has been critical of newly emerged “alternative forces,” accusing them of political theatrics and hollow populism. He stated that his party’s core agenda aligns with that of the Communist Party, which led to the decision to unite. “We are coming together against the trend of declaring oneself prime minister without sacrifice or struggle, and of turning Parliament into a mere stage,” Sayami said. A native of the Kalimati area, Sayami is also preparing to contest the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21 (March 5) from Kathmandu Constituency No. 8. In the previous local elections, he contested the mayoral post as an independent candidate under the ‘Window’ symbol and secured 13,770 votes.
