Yango Launches Trial Service in Kathmandu
Kathmandu, 17 May. Global tech company Yango Group has officially entered the Nepali market with the launch of the test phase of its urban mobility app, Yango. According to the company, this is the first app to offer trial ride-hailing services in Nepal’s federal capital, Kathmandu.
Yango Ride connects passengers with local transport providers and empowers partner drivers to find customers more efficiently. The app utilizes mapping, navigation systems, and smart order distribution algorithms to offer an affordable and smooth service experience for both riders and partner drivers.
“We are excited to launch the pilot phase of our mobility solution in Kathmandu,” said Adeniyi Adebayo, Chief Business Officer of Yango Ride. “Our business model is built on close collaboration with local entrepreneurs. It aims to create economic opportunities while supporting the development of a dynamic urban transport infrastructure. During the pilot phase, we will rely on feedback from both riders and partner drivers to better tailor our services to Nepal’s unique market needs.”
Enhancing Taxi Operators’ Efficiency
Yango Ride does not operate its own vehicles or drivers. Instead, it partners with local transport providers and helps them connect with passengers through the app. This collaboration helps partners digitalize their operations, thereby boosting efficiency. Yango Ride also supports local taxi operators with tools like digital accounting systems and fleet management to increase transparency, operational efficiency, and service value.
“In cities like Kathmandu, where we face daily transportation challenges, the introduction of a user-friendly platform like Yango is a major step forward,” said Jenish Shrestha, founder of local transport company Dosti Ride. “Nepal’s mobility market is still nascent, and I am really excited to collaborate with a global brand and contribute to the growth of this market. This partnership will help create new job opportunities, especially for the younger generation looking for flexible income options, It also offers entrepreneurs like me the chance to learn from a global tech leader and gain valuable exposure.”
Affordability and Efficiency
The Yango app is available for free download on Google Play and the App Store. It is designed to make reaching your destination easier with two- or four-wheeled vehicles at economy pricing. Eco-friendly electric taxis and motorcycles are also being integrated into the platform. The app uses geolocation technology to detect a rider’s location and connect them with the nearest available partner driver, reducing wait times. Yango Ride automatically calculates the estimated cost of each trip based on the entered destination. For now, payments can only be made in cash.
The app also helps reduce travel costs and time for both passengers and drivers by optimizing routes and minimizing idle time. Partner drivers can transition smoothly from one trip to another, saving fuel and maximizing earnings.
Focusing on safety
Safety is a top priority in ride-hailing services, for both passengers and drivers. In Kathmandu, Yango Ride already includes over 20 safety features available before, during, and after the ride. These include speed and reckless driving monitoring, the ability to share the trip route with someone close, and quick access to emergency contacts via SOS functions.
Yango Ride is committed to offering a convenient and reliable solution for daily travel in Kathmandu. By partnering with local taxi operators and helping them digitize their services, the company aims to contribute to job creation and modernize the local transport industry.
